Afton Motorsports Park has closed for 2020 and when that was confirmed last week it abruptly concluded New York’s Empire Series for the All Star and Junior Slingshots.
With the conclusion Tucker Jones of Fort Plain, Ny claims his first Tobias Slingshot Championship in the All Star Slingshots for the 2020 Empire Series. Jones, a former Junior Slingshot racer, also finished inside the top ten at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park in his home track points.
Jones, a regular competitor at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, will eye World Championship Weekend in October as an opportunity to put another jewel in his 2020 crown at the similarly configured Linda's Speedway in Jonestown, Pa Oct 30, 31 and Nov 1.
Brock “Bam Bam” Pinkerous claims the first Junior Slingshot Empire Series crown following the series return in 2020 after a few years of being dormant.
Even with the Empire Series coming to a close New York will not fall silent this week.
Albany-Saratoga Speedway will host the Slingshots this Friday night as this except from their Facebook page states:
“Aside from the Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman and Pro Stocks, one of the fastest and largest growing divisions in the Northeast today are the Tobias Slingshots. Many stars of today cut their teeth in this highly competitive and well supported division throughout the years. Names like Derrick McGrew Jr, Garrett Poland, Alex Payne and Bobby Hackel to name a few. Last year Nick Auspelmyer stood tall in victory lane, can he repeat in 2020, or can another face grace victory lane and add their name to the list of legendry drivers who have brought home checkered flags?
This coming Friday, September 18th, 2020 the Tobias Slingshots will take to the famed Malta, New York’s “The Great Race Place”, chasing a $500.00 payday courtesy of Northeast Paving & Sealcoat based out of Ellenville, New York. The stars & cars of the Tobias Slingshots enter the Albany-Saratoga Speedway this Friday night at 7:00pm!”
